2022 State Week

After not making it to State last year, we are going back!

Thanks to the strong effort from Sara in the 200 Freestyle, we will once again be participating on the biggest stage of the year.

And it takes everyone’s help to make this happen

Thank you to everyone who swam their hearts out at Sectionals. It was fun to watch you reach your goals.

Everyone is invited to practice this week to train with Sara – because there is still more work and goals to accomplish. Training partners and encouragement will help us take the program to the next level.

And if you want to watch Sara in person you will need a ticket. Please see yesterday’s email. If you want to be a timer, please email coach, so we can get you on the list.

Here are some facts about Sara’s appearance at the State Meet

  • She becomes the 3rd Wiedoff family member to make it to the State Meet. Older sister Amanda was part of three 200 Medley Relays in 2013, 2014, and 2015 swimming backstroke.  Older brother Jeff made it in the 200 Freestyle as a Freshman in 2106, then the 50 Freestyle in 2017, 2018, and 2019 along with the 100 Butterfly in each of those years as well (2016-2019)
  • The last time two times the team had someone make it in the 200 Freestyle were in 2012 with Danielle Kudis who finished 19th and Lindsey Stedman in 2007 who finished 20th.
  • Sara’s Sectional time of 1:56.59 moved her past Lindsay Stedman and is .14 behind Danielle Kudis and .28 behind the second-oldest school record held by Christy Walton.

This week is the time to bring in your backpack, parka, and kickboard. Also, please watch for an email for your end of season surveys as well.

The schedule for this week will be the same as last. Practice will be starting at 5 PM each day and running to 7 PM, minus Friday where we will start at 3:30

The end of season banquet date is being worked on. More details will be coming out soon.

2022 Sectional Results

An excellent day of swimming in Racine!

We had 18 individual swims and 17 were season or lifetime best times. All three relays set a new standard for this season.

There were a number of highlights from today’s swimming. We will try to capture them all.

200 Free: Norah went a season-best. Sara went 1:56.59 moving into 3rd all-time in school history just .28 off the school record

200 IM: Sydney went as season best time

50 Free: Stella, Brit, Aubrey, and Samantha all went a lifetime best times

100 Fly: Adrienne went a lifetime best

100 Free: Stella, Norah, Katie, Miranda, and Autumn all went lifetime best times. Sara’s time was not a lifetime best but was a season-best. Her 54.63 moves Sara into 4th all-time in school history past Coach Jordon, Amelia Olson, and Kaitlyn Curtis.

100 Back: Adrienne and Aubrey both went lifetime bests

100 Breast: Katie just missed a season-best. 1:11.72 moves Sydney into 11th all-time in school history – 2 spots behind Coach Anna

Overall that is some really good swimming. 39.54 seconds dropped from seed time.

2022 Sectional Week

A solid set of practices in Week 12 with no meet during the week. The effort was present and we concluded with some strong swims for time on Saturday.

That brings us to Sectional week.

This is an exciting Week of practice as we enter the Taper Phase of the season.

Here are the coach’s notes for the Taper — The primary purpose of a taper is to allow athletes to recover from various forms of fatigue. The work performed in a taper should be either race-specific or of a recovery nature. Positive thinking and performance predictions should be developed to assist in developing a healthy approach to recovery and impending competition.

Sleep rest should be increased this week. An extra hour goes a long way. And yes we know the football game is Friday. Standing for 3 hours is NOT a good way to spend your taper. Low 60’s and rain are predicted. How you prepare for the meet will determine how you perform at the meet.

All of the swimmers should have tried on their fast suits so we can ensure that they fit before we get to the pool on Saturday.

We need to get through one more Homecoming Week of practices. The focus during week 8 was pretty good during North Homecoming Week. The same has to happen this week during KM Homecoming Week.

2022 Week 8

16 of our 26 swims were season best on Saturday at the Bulldog Invite at Cedarburg. This was a fantastic way to end Week 7 and was extremely positive based on the length and crowded pool deck. And it comes after some great swims on Thursday against South.

Our reminder from our post-swim review on Thursday, we need to keep trusting the process – including the dry land program as well as the training groups on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Make sure you are reading and checking the schedule. It has not changed very much over the past couple of weeks. Missing practice now will cause a delay in your progress.

Temperatures are dropping this week. Please dress appropriately for after practice when you go home. Going home in your suit should be avoided.

A dual this week and then a week without a meet leads to more training. Put trust in the system.
